H-1B Strain on Universities

A Forbes analysis finds universities facing new strain as H-1B visa fees rise sharply, reaching up to $100,000 per application in some categories. Stanford leads the list of institutions most affected, followed by Michigan, Harvard, Columbia, and several California campuses. Each employs large numbers of international researchers in engineering, medicine, and computer science. Higher costs may limit new faculty hiring and delay research projects that depend on global talent. As noted in earlier rankings coverage, budgets and pipelines already face pressure; the next year will show whether higher education can sustain innovation amid tighter immigration economics.
