Italy's New AI Law
Italy has become the first nation to enact a comprehensive AI law covering privacy, oversight, and child protections. Passed in September 2025, the law goes beyond EU proposals by requiring transparency and limiting high-risk AI systems. Supporters view it as a model for democratic regulation; critics warn of burdens on innovation. With the U.S. still relying on a patchwork of state rules, Italy now serves as an early test case for how governments balance technological ambition with public trust.
