Artificial intelligence may soon advise the bench, not sit upon it. A Harvard Law forum asked whether large language models like ChatGPT could serve as judicial interpreters. The answer was not yet. Scholars praised speed in research and drafting while warning that consistency, context, and legitimacy still require human judgment. A federal judge described using ChatGPT to probe ordinary meaning, then affirmed that rulings demand conscience and accountability. Courts can test disclosure and review protocols while keeping authority human.
