When Myth Became Mechanism

Talos belonged to the realm of myth, his strength sustained by divine ichor. Hero of Alexandria, by contrast, worked in the first century CE with air, water, and fire to create machines that seemed alive: temple doors that opened on their own, coin dispensers that poured wine, and theatrical devices that moved as if enchanted. Where Talos embodied the dream of a self-moving guardian, Hero proved imagination could be engineered, turning legend into mechanism and myth into working design.
