Your Brain on AI
A new MIT study using brain scans found that people relying on ChatGPT showed less activity in regions tied to memory, creativity, and executive control. The better the AI performed, the less users mentally engaged. And after using AI, they did worse on independent follow-up tasks. This echoes findings from CHI ’25: we are no longer just solving problems—we’re supervising AI. So guide the machine. Think before accepting. Look for gaps. When AI completes the task, let your brain complete the thinking.
